You Are Not Thinking Fourth-Dimensionally

 “Marty, you’re just not thinking fourth-dimensionally”. Here is a popular quote borrowed from one of my favorite movies of all time, the “Back to the future” saga. If you’re in your thirties or older, odds are this movie came to mind as soon as you read the title of this article.

Now, you may be wondering what this concept has to do with trading and that’s exactly why I am writing this. It’s all about changing perspective from what the vast majority of people are experiencing on a daily basis like that 9-to-5 “safe” job most people are working hard for, which makes (in the best-case scenario) their bosses happy.

Now, listen. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. There are millions of people out there that are fully satisfied by living that lifestyle of being a regular employee striving to get that next promotion. They have already achieved the goal of reaching that sense of complete self-accomplishment.

In fact, if you’re one of them, you don’t even need to read any further. Because the main reason I’m writing this article is because I wasn’t feeling like that internally. And the same goes for tons of people I see around on a daily basis that just can’t wait for the Friday night to come, so that they can enjoy the weekend.

Every single week, they spend 5 days just waiting for the other 2 (Saturdays and Sundays) to come. That means spending roughly 72% of their time waiting for that 28% to come. Just by doing this simple math, it should be easy to realize that there is something that needs to change. I was one of those people mentioned above until a few years back.

The Four “Dimensions” That Make This Job Unique

The good news is, it’s possible to make that change and I am here as proof of that. Of course, nothing comes easy and I am not here to state the opposite. If you happen to find yourself in a similar situation where I was, you’re not thinking fourth-dimensionally. Here are the 4 “dimensions” of freedom I’m talking about:

  • Financial freedom comes first. It is the basic foundation for a worry-free life. There is nothing wrong into admitting how much having enough money to sustain a high-quality lifestyle for ourselves and our families is important;
  • Time independence about having room to decide for how long we need to focus on our job per-day, per-week, per-month. Moreover, it includes the possibility to plan our own vacations when we want all the way to taking that single day off when we need it;
  • Boss? You have no one. Your only duty as a trader is to respect market hours knowing that the market is going to be there every day. And let’s be honest, nothing feels better than being your own boss;
  • Office location flexibility. If the three points above are pretty much common to any entrepreneurship journey, this is pretty unique to trading. And that’s huge. All you need as a trader is a trading station (one laptop and an external display can be enough to start) and an internet connection. That means your own office can be anything from your current living room to a random place anywhere in the world. Even trading and traveling while visiting other countries is a viable option if you’re a profitable trader.

Of course, all of this can become a reality only with the right amount of education, patience and hard work but you already are in the perfect place to begin your journey to the ultimate freedom. So, let’s start thinking fourth-dimensionally!
